Pride. Pride is about being proud of who you are; regardless of whether you experience love, romantic attraction or sexual attraction and if you do, regardless of whoever you have those feelings for. Pride is a celebration of people coming together in love and friendship, to show how far LGBT+ rights have come, and how in some places there’s still work to be done – even in the UK. And it’s too important to miss.

It has been brought to our attention that Pride, in the format the Yeovil LGBT+ community has come to expect, would not be happening this year. We can’t stand and sit by and let that be so. With the help of some incredibly kind and passionate local people, we are putting together a small event of our own to mark Pride here in our town on 3rd September. It won’t be big or fancy, but it will be authentic and community-led, and we’d love you to be a part of it.

As we’re sure you can imagine, there is a lot to be done and not a lot of time in which to do it. For now, we’re just asking you to save the date: 03/09/2022. We’d have preferred to outline our plans to you today along with this announcement, but there are a couple of key components that need to fall into place to make our current proposals a reality.

If not, we will adapt and overcome. We will do something; we promise you that. Events unfolding in our country and around the world right now paint a bleak picture, with LGBT+ rights being undermined and even eroded. Now, as much as ever, we need our community to be visible, to show that we exist, that we are proud of who we are, and to encourage unity in our community. Yeovil Does Pride, and that’s not going to change.
